Your private beach

Or beach where there's no beach. Awesome!

marine furniture_01

Developed by the design team at Ithaka Design, the “Zilborrerstea” is a new marine furniture concept that offers a relaxing space in a beach, lake or a river, where you can enjoy a nice sunbath on a sunny day.

Not disposable coffee cup

Read this carefully... If you drink a lot of coffee, especially if not at home but in a coffee shop and you take your coffee on the go.

I know that we rarely take tea on the go but this concept applies, don't you think.

Disposable paper cups are not recyclable. The paper cup is made from a composite of materials: kraft bleached paper sprayed with a polyethylene coating. Paper cups are often impregnated with toxic dyes which make them difficult to recycle. The plastic lining in disposable paper cups means they are not recyclable. It's not just the cup and lid that go into landfill. On average, each disposable cup contains 5% of the raw materials involved in the process of making and delivering it.

A very big Green Roof in Vancouver, Canada

vancouver-convetion-center.jpg

This green roof will be the largest in Canada when complete. It's the roof of the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre. The whole Centre is being built with high environmental standards. Besides the multi-hectare intensive green roof, it will have energy efficient lighting and electrical systems, an on-site desalinization system, and a greywater treatment that will provide irrigation for the green roof.

Now the green roof is ready. It looks amazing. See it for yourself.

A short lesson on local food

I guess this is true for many post industrial countries. I am not sure if the message in the video is the rigth and only solution. I understand where it is coming from though. Do you think that after many years of specialization we can now go back to multi-production in every country.

Anyway, the video is really well made so enjoy.

Reasonable shower, finally

If you have an active lifestyle taking a shower becomes really important part of it. You take it at home, at a gym, at a swimming pool, etc. The "outdoor showers", meaning the ones not in your home adress the issue I am talking about quite well (not great however).

What is the issue? The wasted water. In this case it is difficult to manage water consumption. How to optimize the times when the water needs to be turned off. The "outdoor shouwers" usually turn off after couple of seconds. Good for the water but bad in terms of fucntionality. It is often not enough to get rid of soap from your body or shampoo from your head.

With the pressure-sensitive bathmat I found on The Design blog all the shower hussle should go away.

Showering is an irresistible but at the same time a big waste of indoor water, causing scarcity of water in urban areas. Addressing the issue, a bunch of designers has come up with an innovative bathmat that cut shorts the consumption of water during shower even without intruding your bath leisure.

Clean the air around you with your plants

A simple concept of using plants to clean air which is basically their function, right.

greenair_01

GreenAir has a fan inside to pull the air to the root area, using solar panel as the energy source. So, larger amount of contaminants can be purified in a shorter time. It also has self-watering system, using nylon thread as the extension of the root. So, the plants can absorb water according to the needs. The planter is made of biodegradable material, when the plant has grown up; it can be directly transfer to soil and will be the nutrients for the plant.

Energy as a currency

An interesting concept of a car-free city. You ride a bike most days. If you need to go further you take a bus for which you pay with energy stored on your bike. It's called London Garden.
