And I thought I've seen them all

You know that I like tea and more importantly I like tea design. I thought I've already seen all modern tea pot designs. But... I was wrong. Weburbanist just showed a bunch of cool (some weird) tea pots.

Drinking Tea 3D style

Here’s how it works:

The teacup is made up of two hemispheres. Between the hemispheres is a thin net which prevents the tea leaves from entering the cup. While the aroma from the tea leaves is mixed with hot water, the cup is covered with the top hemisphere, preventing the aroma from evaporating into the air. After 3 minutes, when the tea leaves have released their flavor, the tea cup is ready to be flipped 180 degrees and the leaves will be separated from the tea. All that is needed is one hand movement in order for the leaves to be separated from the liquid, in other words, for the tea to enter into one hemisphere from the other without spilling.

That's why loose tea is better and actually cheaper

Don't you agree...

most expensive tea bag Worlds Most Expensive Tea Bag

In 2005, a British jeweller made the world’s most expensive tea bag to celebrate the 75th birthday of PG Tips.

The bag was studded with 280 diamonds and worth £7,500.

Tea Design Voting Site

For some time now I have been collecting links, photos of cool tea designs. You must have noticed cause I was collecting them here. Today I was introduced to a tool called Slinkset, which is basically your private Digg. I have set up a site there called Tea Design where you can find, submit and vote on the best tea design out there. Go check it out!

PS. There is also a Facebook page where you can find things submitted to Tea Design. You know how it works. 25 fans and there's a vanity URL waiting.

The Book of Tea, Kakuzo Okakura

The Book of Tea written by Kakuzo Okakura introduces the readers to the world of tea and its influence on Japanese lifestyle and culture. The tea is all about simplicity. I like how now we are starting to notice that. The KISS concept (Keep It Simple Stupid) and Less Is More come to mind.

You can read it here or through the Project Gutenberg site. Some part of the book are aslo available on Google Books.
The PDF embedded below covers only a part of the book. I found it on this site.

Lotung, a Tang poet, wrote: "The first cup moistens my lips and throat, the second cup breaks my loneliness, the third cup searches my barren entrail but to find therein some five thousand volumes of odd ideographs. The fourth cup raises a slight perspiration,--all the wrong of life passes away through my pores. At the fifth cup I am purified; the sixth cup calls me to the realms of the immortals. The seventh cup--ah, but I could take no more! I only feel the breath of cool wind that rises in my sleeves. Where is Horaisan? Let me ride on this sweet breeze and waft away thither."

Not disposable coffee cup

Read this carefully... If you drink a lot of coffee, especially if not at home but in a coffee shop and you take your coffee on the go.

I know that we rarely take tea on the go but this concept applies, don't you think.

Disposable paper cups are not recyclable. The paper cup is made from a composite of materials: kraft bleached paper sprayed with a polyethylene coating. Paper cups are often impregnated with toxic dyes which make them difficult to recycle. The plastic lining in disposable paper cups means they are not recyclable. It's not just the cup and lid that go into landfill. On average, each disposable cup contains 5% of the raw materials involved in the process of making and delivering it.
