Jin Kuramoto Teaset

After careful discussions with craftsmen on how to process and finalise them, I produced several kinds of collections with distinguishing forms and colours. By bringing contemporary values to traditional industries, I am hoping that it will generate new economic benefits and also traditional craftsmanship will continue to grow. These are tea sets using Japanese traditional wooden design of spin forming. These can be piled up to place. They offer not only function as practical tableware, also the presence of artefacts to view.

And I thought I've seen them all

You know that I like tea and more importantly I like tea design. I thought I've already seen all modern tea pot designs. But... I was wrong. Weburbanist just showed a bunch of cool (some weird) tea pots.

Drinking Tea 3D style

Here’s how it works:

The teacup is made up of two hemispheres. Between the hemispheres is a thin net which prevents the tea leaves from entering the cup. While the aroma from the tea leaves is mixed with hot water, the cup is covered with the top hemisphere, preventing the aroma from evaporating into the air. After 3 minutes, when the tea leaves have released their flavor, the tea cup is ready to be flipped 180 degrees and the leaves will be separated from the tea. All that is needed is one hand movement in order for the leaves to be separated from the liquid, in other words, for the tea to enter into one hemisphere from the other without spilling.

Tea Design Voting Site

For some time now I have been collecting links, photos of cool tea designs. You must have noticed cause I was collecting them here. Today I was introduced to a tool called Slinkset, which is basically your private Digg. I have set up a site there called Tea Design where you can find, submit and vote on the best tea design out there. Go check it out!

PS. There is also a Facebook page where you can find things submitted to Tea Design. You know how it works. 25 fans and there's a vanity URL waiting.

Make your tea the steampunk way

If you're bored with the modern design tea kettles here's something for you. A steampunk style tea pot. Believe it or not, I first heard of this steampunk style today. It reminds me of the Russian samovar.

Taking on the absurd intricacy, the unique teapot by Cincinnati-based freelance designer Michael Morarity draws inspiration from steampunk to divulge the sham sophistication of the modern era through an art work.
