Change the way you drink water on the go

Just you have to always carry it with you if you want to have a sip.

The Source Project indulges in a whole new way of purchasing and dispensing packaged drinking water. The system requires store owners and vendors to install a Source Water Fountain outside their shops, like how you have those candy dispensing machines.

Reasonable shower, finally

If you have an active lifestyle taking a shower becomes really important part of it. You take it at home, at a gym, at a swimming pool, etc. The "outdoor showers", meaning the ones not in your home adress the issue I am talking about quite well (not great however).

What is the issue? The wasted water. In this case it is difficult to manage water consumption. How to optimize the times when the water needs to be turned off. The "outdoor shouwers" usually turn off after couple of seconds. Good for the water but bad in terms of fucntionality. It is often not enough to get rid of soap from your body or shampoo from your head.

With the pressure-sensitive bathmat I found on The Design blog all the shower hussle should go away.

Showering is an irresistible but at the same time a big waste of indoor water, causing scarcity of water in urban areas. Addressing the issue, a bunch of designers has come up with an innovative bathmat that cut shorts the consumption of water during shower even without intruding your bath leisure.

A cordless and pipeless building

Sometimes gadgets are just not enough. A building that doesn't need power cables or waterpipes is so much better. Don't you think.

water resort

Inspired by a drop of water when falling from the air, the Water Building Resort is a unique combination of nature and technology that converts air into water with the help of solar power. A sustainable building projected for the water-conscious themes and practices, the HITECH resort is designed in a specific manner that integrates the renewable energy and generates electricity and water from the air.

Another source of drinking water

The Design blog rights about another interesting solution to get drinking water. It is not as extreme as the previous one (mentioned here).

This device is extracting water from the air. Cool, right? Except, my concern is that it will not solve the problem of water scarcity. The water flow in the environemt is fixed. However it could make water more accesible in some areas.

A clever double use of water - the grey water filter

Do you remember the Yanko design solution for double use of water? Well, apparently such a solution already exists and is available for purchase. Offered in a shop of Green by Design. Costs around $300.

A clever double use of water

Reasonable use of water is something I've already mentioned on "A sound mind in a sound body". Yanko design brings another way of how to preserve water or rather how to use it efficiently. And what's great about it is that it can be easily applied in every household.

Reasonable use of water

Florida’s “fountain of youth” today may be a wastewater treatment system disguised as a cascading water feature in a building atrium.

See, that's what I am talking about. Reasonable use of water.

The future source of drinking water

As you probably all know water is a rare commodity. Today, nearly one person in five has no access to potable water. And in the near future the percentage might be even higher. Water could become a luxury product one day.

The device designed by Leonardo Manevalla can provide an interesting solution to this problem.

If I am not mistaken the astronauts in space us the same method. We can too, right? The only concern I have is the psychological side. How to go about drinking your own urine?

agua h2o
Scarcity of drinking water is one of the major quandaries of human life that has caused alarms all across the world. However, addressing the issue, Argentine designer Leonardo Manavella has come up with an innovative device concept that will solve the drinking water problem, to some extent, in the drought-affected or unclean-water areas. Hailed as “Agua H2O,” the emergency device that (I’m sure, you won’t believe) converts urine, human or animal, into drinkable water. All the users have to do is pee on the ‘Activated Carbon’ in the device, where urine loses its color and flavor, and remove the container for fresh and clean water. Simply amazing!

Water is the mother of Tea

Brewing tea is probably the most important part of drinking tea. Chinese say that water is "the mother of tea". And certainly it is true. However, we cannot always choose right water for our tea. What we can do is brew tea with right temperature water. The right temperature changes with different types of tea. It is lower for unoxidized teas and higher for fermented ones. The picture below shows what is the right water temperature for different kinds of tea. You should remember though that some teas might need yet a different temperature than the ones mentioned here (picture 2). One example is a Japanese green tea called Gyokuro which should be brewed with room temperature water (60 C). So you should always check what is the right temperature for your tea.

The secret of right temperature lies within the tea kettle. You can easily find great tea kettles that indicates the temperature of the water. Both electronic and classic ones. My favorite are these two:
- PerfecTemp Teakettle (picture 1)
- UtiliTEA Kettle

Luckily there is a way to have the right temperature of water without the fancy tea kettle. Water temperature drops with time. I did some experiments to learn how the temperature of water changes over time. Here's what I found (picture 3).

I hope this helps you brew a better tea.
